These programs are designed for those wishing to start a career in this growing field, professionals looking to expand their skills and credentials, and homeowners, or anyone, interested in learning about current technology and practice in the area of sustainable living.

CONTINUING ED TO OFFER NATIONAL SUSTAINABLE BUILDING ADVISOR CERTIFICATE PROGRAM STARTING IN OCTOBER, 2009

Sustainable building is rapidly becoming the new guiding principle for communities and institutions. Professional advisors are needed to guide employers and clients in strategies and tools for implementing current and future standards.

How to Achieve Green, Sustainable, High Performance Buildings

This is a specialized training program designed to enable graduates to advise employers or clients on strategies and tools for implementing sustainable buildings. By the end of this training program, participants will be able to: 
  1. Identify and discuss the key practices of sustainable building 
  2. Establish competencies in applying LEED, and other relevant criteria or established guidelines
  3. Analyze the costs and benefits of incorporating sustainable building measures 
  4. Take advantage of financial incentives and technical assistance offered by governments, utilities and non- profit organizations 
  5. Work with architects, designers, builders, building operators, and utilities to improve a building's performance 
  6. Establish a sustainable design goal for project development 
  7. Assist in the education and training of staff in sustainable building

The program will run from October 2009 June 2010 with classes meeting once a month all day Fridays and Saturdays. Upon completion of the program, you will have had over 100 hours of training, and successful graduates will be eligible to take an exam which certifies them as a National Sustainable Building Advisor. The cost for this program is $2245 which includes the certification exam fee. Payment Plan available.
The program is offered through the National Sustainable Building Advisor Program, which was founded, as a nonprofit corporation in Washington state, for the sole purpose of offering this unique and comprehensive sustainable building curriculum to practicing professionals to give them the tools they need to make our built environment truly sustainable. A nationally-based peer group of experts will provide annual reviews of the material to maintain applicability and timeliness. For more information about the NaSBAP, click here.
